Jay Rosenbaum is a partner at Nixon Peabody LLP, and the leader of the firm’s International Private Clients Team. Jay represents high net worth individuals, families and family offices around the globe, providing expert, yet practical, US-focused private client experience to those who require management of tax and legal exposures in multiple jurisdictions. He also serves as an onshore US trustee for many international families. Jay’s early career was focused on middle market corporate transactions. He draws on that experience to develop planning techniques for client families who own businesses and require integrated personal and corporate planning strategies.
Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?
Answer: Having started out working on corporate transactions, I was much more interested in the people and the impact of the deals on the principals.
Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?
Answer: Team building; issue spotting; flexibility; and empathy
Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?
Answer: I have had the opportunity to advise recently on the intersection of the laws regarding reproductive technologies and private clients laws and advisory. It is a fascinating space and will keep us busy for years to come.
