Jennifer is a Private Client Partner and Head of Charities at MTG. Her practice spans a range of private wealth and charity law matters. She specialises in personal tax and taxation of trusts, Wills, LPAs, succession planning and trust law, alongside disclosure regimes. Jennifer regularly advises on complex international matters and structures, including pre-arrival planning. Additionally, Jennifer heads MTG’s Charities practice, advising donors and charities (including Donor Advised Funds) in every stage of their lifespan. She is also experienced in the use of trusts in commercial transactions. Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?
Answer: Two things - people and black letter law. I advise individuals with such a huge range of backgrounds, motivating factors and family dynamics that I find the human aspect endlessly fascinating and enjoy tailoring my approach to match different personalitie
Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?
Answer: Empathy and good, adaptable communication skills. It is important to have an ability to explain complex concepts clearly and to distill technical law into pragmatic advice.
Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?
Answer: Whilst I think the UK's Budget missed some opportunities to build a new, attractive but profitable tax system, exploring how the changes impact on our clients and helping them plan their lives is interesting. I remain positive that there are still some pe
Question : Where is your favourite place to take a peer for a cocktail or coffee?
Answer: For a coffee I would say Barbie Green as it's on MTG's doorstep and it has a whole lamington menu (I feel I need to say no more!). The pisco sours at Sushisamba take a lot of beating whilst it also boasts some amazing views of the London skyline.
