Professional Biography

Katherine has over 25 years' experience advising professional trustees, businesses and individuals on a broad range of private wealth, pension and incentive trust arrangements. She started her career in London at a well-known boutique practice, where she focussed on landed estates and high net worth individuals. She became a partner at the law firm now known as Shakespeare Martineau in 2010 where she advised SMEs on both their personal and corporate wealth structuring and planning. Katherine is now based in Ogier's Jersey office providing both Jersey and BVI law advice and her role involves advising on the design, implementation, and management of offshore trust structures including employee incentive schemes and pensions as well as support to trustees and clients on contentious matters .

Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?

Answer: Private client/wealth work is hugely satisfying, not only are you able to build close relationships with your clients and their families and feel you are having a positive impact but it is also intellectually stimulating with an ever evolving global legal

Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?

Answer: To be adaptable, both to changes in the law but also to changing circumstances for families, excellent interpersonal skills, you have to earn the trust of your clients and be analytical, to be able to process complex legal information and provide solution

Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?

Answer: The world is a village and becoming even more so, I am excited for the clients we will meet and the multiple jurisdictional assets and issues they will ask us to help with.
