Marco Cerrato is an Italian tax lawyer based in Milan and a partner at Maisto e Associati since 2003. Holding a PhD in tax law, he has a diverse practice spanning contentious and non-contentious matters, working closely with banks, family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and international families. His expertise includes generational and estate planning, lifetime asset transfers, ownership structures, trust taxation, cross-border tax residence, and the structuring and taxation of art collections and philanthropic activities. From 2000 to 2022, Marco held the course of international tax law at the Faculty of Law of the University LIUC of Castellanza. Since 2021, he has served as the scientific co-director of the advanced training program on Protection, Transmission, and Management of Family Estates, jointly organized by STEP Italy and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. In addition, he lectures and coordinates the advanced course on International Management of Family Wealth at the International University of Monaco, a role he has held since 2023. Over the past decade, Marco has been appointed by the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to contribute to various tax reform initiatives. Recognized as one of Italy’s leading tax lawyers by the main international directories, he chaired the Italian branch of STEP for three years and is currently the Deputy Chair of its European Region.
