Professional Biography

Matt is based in Guernsey and leads Ogier's Private Wealth team globally. He specialises in advising high-net-worth families, trust companies and family offices in relation to succession planning and structuring through trusts, foundations and other vehicles. His practice is truly international and he works with families and fiduciary businesses in Europe, the Middle East, the US and the UK. Matt is frequently engaged by clients to design and implement bespoke cross border structures, to restructure existing trusts and to advise trustees in relation to complex matters and disputes.

What is your favorite restaurant to take a client or colleague to?

Bob Bob Ricard... because you can "press for champagne"!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

There isn't always an answer, it is just a question of weighing risk and making the best of it.

What was your first job?

Helping to organise the international visitors to an agricultural show

What is the book you recommend to everyone?

Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aaron Ralston... because until you have had to cut your own arm off with a penknife, you're not having a bad day.

What changes do you expect to see in your practice over the next year?

The increasing pace of regulatory change is going to drive clients to those who can advise deftly on the full spectrum of issues - from regulatory issues, to sanctions, to anti-money laundering concerns and everything in between.
