Mr. Ramírez obtained his law degree from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City and an LLM focused on taxation from Georgetown University. His practice is divided between corporate tax and estate planning. In the latter, he has substantial experience in representing UHNW families, being involved in their material transactions performed in Mexico and abroad. Most families represented by him include individuals with ties to different jurisdictions, some of them reside in Europe or USA. He also represents clients before authorities during tax audits and before Mexican courts. His practice includes the review of international information requests and the exchange process. He is a postgraduate tax law professor at Universidad Panamericana and has been a lecturer in various forums. He is STEP Mexico’s former chair and continues to be in the board. He is part of STEP LATAM’s Advisory Committee.
Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?
Answer: The human side of family counseling (generally absent in the business world).
Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?
Answer: Problem-solving thinking and anticipating challenges. Avoid endless technical explanations of statutory provisions.
Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?
Answer: Global political changes are bring new and interesting challenges for wealthy families.
Question : Where is your favourite place to take a peer for a cocktail or coffee?
Answer: Avoiding traffic in Mexico City is essential, so any place in front of my office works very well.
