Professional Biography

Sam is an experienced litigator and advocate, having been called to the Jersey Bar in 2015, and appears regularly in the Royal Court of Jersey and Court of Appeal. Sam has particular expertise in private wealth disputes, including breach of trust proceedings, fiduciary removal applications, contentious restructurings, construction and tax mistake applications. He advises trustees, beneficiaries and settlors. In addition, Sam has experience of enforcing foreign arbitral awards and judgments and obtaining urgent injunctive relief, often in the context of fraud and asset tracing. He also advises on corporate and shareholder disputes, as well as on insolvency matters.

Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?

Answer: I enjoy the human element of private client law and the opportunity to work with clients on matters they are passionate about.

Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?

Answer: The ability to listen to, and to empathise with, clients is absolutely essential.

Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?

Answer: The transfer of wealth between generations is an important shift as it often leads to new attitudes and priorities and disruption can follow unless carefully managed.

Question : Where is your favourite place to take a peer for a cocktail or coffee?

Answer: The Pavilion in St Helier is a great, laid-back venue.
