Shopify was hit with a privacy class action Friday in California Northern District Court over its digital payment software. The suit, filed by Gutride Safier, contends that Shopify software embedded in the sites of other merchants surreptitiously collects consumer data and uses it to develop user profiles. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 3:21-cv-06269, Briskin v. Shopify Inc. et al.
