Former Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin de León sued Santos Leon and Karla Vasquez, former employees for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, on Oct. 6 in California Superior Court for Los Angeles County. According to the complaint, the defendants illegally recorded a conversation about the city's ethnic populations and later leaked it online, where it was deemed offensive. The complaint, filed by Geragos & Geragos, contends that the plaintiff's privacy was violated and his reputation was damaged despite his silence in the recordings. Fellow former councilman Gilbert Cedillo followed a similar suit. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 23STCV24461, De Leon v. Leon.
