New Suit

California Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta were slapped with a lawsuit Thursday in California Eastern District Court over Assembly Bill 832, which enacted the COVID-19 Rental Housing Recovery Act. The complaint, brought by FisherBroyles on behalf of the California Rental Housing Association, contends that the law unconstitutionally burdens property owners by superseding existing rental agreements and undermining landlords' right to repossess properties. The case is 2:21-cv-01394, California Rental Housing Association et al v. Newsom et al.
