The Federal Trade Commission filed an insurance fraud lawsuit against Benefytt Technologies, Health Plan Intermediaries Holdings and other defendants on Monday in Florida Middle District Court. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of misrepresenting health plans as ACA-qualified, charging costly hidden fees and billing customers after cancellation of their policies. The FTC estimates that consumers have lost hundreds of millions of dollars as a result of the deceptive practices. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants.
