The Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, and other defendants were slapped with a breach-of-contract lawsuit Thursday in Georgia Northern District Court. The lawsuit was brought by Akerman on behalf of Florida Power & Light Company and JEA. The court action seeks declaratory judgment that the plaintiff party has no duty to continue paying for the operation and associated costs of coal-fired thermoelectric power-production units. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 1:22-cv-01798, Florida Power & Light Company and JEA v. Georgia Power Company et al.
