Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani filed a franchise and trade secrets lawsuit Tuesday in Georgia Northern District Court on behalf of JTH Tax LLC, the licensee of 'liberty tax service' trademarks. The complaint targets Leslie N. Pierce, James E. Axley and other defendants for allegedly operating Nest Financial Services, a competing tax business, in the course of also operating their 'liberty tax' franchise. The suit further contends that after their franchise agreement was terminated, the defendants misappropriated proprietary information regarding tax preparation for the benefit of Nest Financial. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 1:22-cv-01237, JTH Tax LLC v. Pierce et al.
