New Suit - Privacy Class Action

Meta Platforms was hit with a biometric privacy class action on Aug. 16 in California Northern District Court. The suit, filed by Arias Sanguinetti Wang & Torrijos and Goldenberg Heller & Antognoli, claims that Meta collects and stores customer voiceprints through its Facebook and Messenger platforms in violation of Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. The suit notes that Meta was issued a patent in 2020 related to the use of voiceprints to identify users but does not disclose the practice to customers. Counsel have not yet appeared for Meta. The case is 3:23-cv-04181, Turck v. Meta Platforms, Inc.
