The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Hooters of America, the operator of a national chain of restaurants, on Aug. 24 in North Carolina Middle District Court over an alleged practice of race-based employment discrimination. The complaint contends that Hooters failed to rehire Black women employed as 'Hooters Girls' after layoffs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and claims that 92% of Hooters Girls rehired were white. Lawyers have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 1:23-cv-00722, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission v. Hooters of America, LLC.
