New Suit - Product Liability, Wrongful Death

Snap Inc., the creator of messaging app Snapchat, was hit with a wrongful death lawsuit on May 17 in South Carolina District Court. The court action was filed by Griffin Humphries and Joe Cunningham Law on behalf of the estate of a deceased 13-year-old minor who died by suicide after being the victim of 'sextortion,' which is the practice of a predator threatening to circulate the sexual images of an individual unless the predator is paid to keep the images hidden. The plaintiff also brings claims for strict liability design defect, failure to warn and negligence. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 3:24-cv-03069, Barnett v. Snap Inc.
