New Suit - Copyright

United Lex, an alternative legal services provider, was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit on June 12 in California Northern District Court. The court action, brought by Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass on behalf of Scalr Inc., accuses the defendant of using the plaintiff's software application without a license. According to the complaint, the plaintiff licensed the software to United Lex to include within technology packages that it marketed and licensed to law firms, but United Lex opted not to renew its annual license effective Dec. 31, 2023. Scalr argues that the defendant continued to incorporate the software into its technology packages even without a license. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 3:24-cv-03556, Scalr, Inc. v. Unitedlex Corp.
