The Senate confirmed election law attorney Roopali Desai to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, making her the first South Asian judge to sit on the country's largest federal appeals court. Desai, a partner at Coppersmith Brockelman, was confirmed in a 67-29 vote. After receiving her law degree from the University of Arizona in 2005, Desai clerked for Chief Judge Mary Schroeder of the Ninth Circuit and received her law degree from the University of Arizona.
