It's official: Squire Sanders merging with Hammonds
Five years after merging with Steel Hector & Davis, Squire Sanders & Dempsey has done it again - this time, merging with European law firm Hammonds. While the Steel Hector merger gave the Cleveland-based firm a gateway to Latin America, the merger with Hammonds provides the firm with a network of offices throughout Europe. Hammonds is to close its Munich office in the wake of the departure of a five-lawyer team to Eversheds. The U.K. firm has opted to pull out of Munich starting March 31, and instead enter into a referral agreement with local patent law firm Gulde Hengelhaupt Ziebig & Schneider. Squire, Sanders & Dempsey and British firm Hammonds are in merger talks. "While we are still at an early stage, our discussions to date indicate that such a merger would appeal strongly to clients that want high-quality legal services from lawyers who have global experience and who understand and respect client demand for value," the Squire Sanders chairman said. After more than two months of official talks, British firm Hammonds and Squire, Sanders & Dempsey have agreed to merge in the latest transatlantic law firm combination.
