Lawyers Hit a Double Fault With Net Racket

Entrepreneur wannabes do it -- why not lawyers? Two attorneys, one in California and another in Minnesota, recently jumped on the cybersquatting bandwagon. They registered domain names incorporating the monikers of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. According to court documents, the California attorney registered "serenawilliams.com" to promote his views on sexism and racism, as well as to advertise his law practice. Apparently the irony of stealing the name of an African-American woman escaped him.

Copyright law protects the contents of a label for a pesticide, and a generic manufacturer therefore cannot simply copy the brand-name-maker's label verbatim, a federal judge has ruled. If the judge's preliminary injunction is upheld, Control Solutions Inc. will be required to pull its generic product from the market for at least three months as it undergoes the rigorous process to win approval for a new label it writes on its own.
