Deutsche Bank Relations in Spotlight After White & Case Departures

White & Case is working to renew its relationship in London with key client Deutsche Bank after six partners with links to the client left the firm's banking and capital markets practice over the past 18 months. After key relationship partner Mike Goetz quit for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in March 2008, a further five partners linked with Deutsche Bank in London have left. At its height the relationship was thought to be worth around $25 million a year to the firm's London office.

EEOC: Kelley Drye Compensation System Discriminates Against Older Partners

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Kelley Drye & Warren on Thursday for its use of a compensation system the agency claims discriminates against attorneys based on age. The EEOC claims Kelley Drye discriminated against labor and employment partner Eugene D'Ablemont, 79, and other partners by forcing them to give up their equity at 70 and earn less than younger attorneys in the firm with similar collections and billings. Kelley Drye's managing partner said the firm does not believe the suit has any merit.

On the Verge of Mergers, Reed Smith Revenues Rise 14 Percent

On the verge of finalizing two of the largest mergers in its history, Reed Smith again reported big increases in several financial indicators in 2006, including a 14.4 percent increase in gross revenue, from about $563 million in 2005 to nearly $644 million in 2006, as well as a 17.5 percent increase in profits per equity partner. One consultant said the most impressive aspect is that the firm increased its average compensation for all partners while increasing its non-equity partner tier.
