In one of the first rulings to apply the U.S. Supreme Court's "nerve center" test for corporate citizenship, a federal judge has ruled that, since GlaxoSmithKline's executive headquarters is in Philadelphia, the company cannot remove a products liability lawsuit from a Pennsylvania state court to federal court. The ruling, if followed by other federal judges, could prove a major setback for GSK because it would face the prospect of a Philadelphia jury in defending itself against a growing wave of drug lawsuits.

After nearly eight years and an initial decision that their clients were owed only $500, Cozen O'Connor attorneys in Denver were successful in getting two clients, Commonwealth Insurance Co. of Pennsylvania and United States Fire Insurance Co. of New Jersey, a $10.9 million jury award against alarm company Sonitrol Corp. The insurers joined forces with the company they insured, Core-Mark Midcontinent Inc., to sue Sonitrol for willful and wanton breach of contract after burglars broke into a Core-Mark warehouse and burned it down.
