Filmmakers hire Lathrop for defamation fight with Dole
The producers of a documentary film called "Bananas!" have brought in a bunch of seasoned attorneys from Lathrop & Gage's Los Angeles office to pick apart a defamation lawsuit brought against them by Dole Food Co. The 300-lawyer Lathrop & Gage, the oldest law firm west of the Mississippi River, has agreed to merge with Denver firm Kamlet Reichert, according to a report in The Denver Post. According to a statement from Lathrop confirming the merger, the agreement will combine Lathrop's 16-lawyer Denver office -- led by litigation partner Philip Lorenzo -- with 21 lawyers from Kamlet Reichert. Earlier this month, Dole sued the makers of the film, which tells the tale of the first U.S. trial involving claims made by Nicaraguan workers against Dole.
