A recent survey has ranked four Philadelphia-area plaintiffs' firms among the top 20 in the country in terms of securities class action settlements in 2009, but a separate study also showed a national trend of decreased filings over the past year.The first shoe dropped for the plaintiffs Sept. 30, when a federal court judge in West Virginia dismissed a derivative suit against the board of the controversial coal company. Worse may be yet to come, when the judge decides a motion for sanctions that alleges Barroway's federal complaint merely copied a since-settled state court suit.
