Public opinion on ethanol producer First United Ethanol has been on a roller coaster ride, according to the company's outside general counsel, Patrick N. Millsaps. First, he says, folks thought it was crazy to make ethanol from corn. Then people clamored to get in on what was touted as a solution to the U.S. addiction to foreign oil. Now critics are blaming corn-based ethanol for causing food prices to rise. Millsaps says he hopes the country will have the foresight to keep the emerging industry going.
