The firm that won the highest medical malpractice jury award recorded in 2001 by The New York Jury Verdict Reporteris no stranger to big verdicts. The $114.8 million win by Lake Success, N.Y.-based Pegalis & Erickson is believed to be the second-largest med-mal verdict in the state's history. Neurologists Revamp Expert Witness Testimony Guidelines
In a move that has irked plaintiffs attorneys, the American Academy of Neurology has revamped its guidelines on expert witness testimony. The AAN maintains that the guidelines, which call for tougher expert credentials and warn against doctors advocating for lawyers, are in response to physicians' complaints about unqualified witnesses.
