Lathrop & Gage, founded in Kansas City, Mo., has moved into Chicago, opening an office there with former Sonnenschein partner Blaine Kimrey, who began his career at Lathrop. Adding the Chicago office is part of Lathrop's plan to expand into major U.S. business centers at a time when companies are seeking lower-cost alternatives, the firm's chief executive said in a release. Filmmakers Hire Lathrop for Defamation Fight With Dole

The producers of a documentary film called "Bananas!" have hired Lathrop & Gage to pick apart a defamation lawsuit brought against them by Dole Food Co. Earlier this month, Dole sued the makers of the film, which tells the tale of the first U.S. trial involving claims made by Nicaraguan workers against Dole. The plaintiffs won a 2007 jury trial, but after the film's completion a judge threw out two similar cases against Dole finding the plaintiffs and their lawyers fraudulently falsified key documents.
