CJP Urged to Remove Sacramento Judge
Superior Court Judge Peter McBrien, who at one point got so overwhelmed before the Commission on Judicial Performance on Wednesday that a recess was called, told commissioners he was "embarassed" to have to appear before them.Judge Draws Censure for Cutting Trial Short
A Sacramento, Calif., judge accused of becoming embroiled in a 2006 divorce case received a "severe" public censure from California's Commission on Judicial Performance on Tuesday. Commissioners said Superior Court Judge Peter McBrien violated a litigant's right to due process when he dramatically ended the trial of Mona Lea Carlsson and Ulf Johan Carlsson at the end of two days of proceedings, cutting off a witness mid-testimony.Hyde Tells Judicial Watchdog He Made a 'Stupid' Mistake
In a final plea to save his job, Pleasanton Judge D. Ronald Hyde apologized for abusing his post and reminded a state watchdog group that he's devoted his life to community service. The 11-member commission will decide what punishment Hyde should receive for seven counts of misconduct, possibly including removal from the bench.Casting Legal Stones Is Just a Basic Instinct

Seems her enthusiasm for the firm waned after a racy quote about Stone's alleged promiscuity that appeared in an unauthorized biography was attributed to an ex-Rosenfeld partner.Ruling Is Another Blow to Van Voorhis
The Contra Costa County district attorney's office plans to use an out-of-town judge's ruling to block Judge Bruce Van Voorhis from hearing any criminal cases. Although the ruling was made on Nov. 27, due to a filing mix-up the prosecutor's office didn't receive a copy of it until Wednesday.Calif. Commission Charges Judge With Willful Misconduct
California's Commission on Judicial Performance has launched formal proceedings against Judge Jose Velasquez, a controversial and outspoken jurist. Velasquez is charged with willful misconduct, prejudicial conduct and improper action in connection with his handling of misdemeanor arraignments. He was censured nine years ago for mishandling drunken-driving cases and disparaging fellow judges and attorneys. Velasquez's attorney, James Murphy, said his client is "a hard-ass when it comes to certain cases."Trending Stories
