Quinn Emanuel partner William Price represented Freedom Wireless in its suit against Boston Communications Group and other cell phone carriers over a patented idea for prepaid cell phone calls. During discovery, Price's team found a stack of documents that it believed showed clear evidence of infringement. The team began putting on witnesses from BCGI and other defendant companies to get them to respond to the documents. The unusual strategy paid off with a $128 million verdict.

One way to get close to Internet clients is through the Silicon Valley venture capital community. Another is through Masayoshi Son and his voracious Softbank Corp. At least, it may turn out that way for Morrison & Foerster, whose Tokyo office scored the Japanese-based company as a client last year. Many of MoFo's deals involved companies backed by Softbank's prodigious investment arm. "It has helped validate our representation in the Internet and e-commerce areas," says MoFo's managing partner in Tokyo.
