New Partner Numbers Increase at Many Large Firms in Texas

For most of the partners in the largest firms in Texas, the partnership track ranges from 6.5 to 12.5 years, according to the firms that participated in Texas Lawyer's annual New Partners Survey. Silica Suits Stalled: New Law Forces Claimants' Cases Into State MDL

Silica litigation virtually has come to a halt in Texas, with thousands of claimants' cases going to a state multidistrict litigation court, because they didn't meet a Nov. deadline for serving defendants with medical reports. The new law distinguishes between the claims of people who are physically impaired or sick due to silica or asbestos exposure from those who have been exposed but are not impaired. One defense lawyer says it has "changed the way this litigation is taking place in the state of Texas."
