Despite more than $6 billion in box office receipts, DVD sales and merchandising from the film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings," his heirs have yet to receive a cent, even though Tolkein sold the film rights to his trilogy in 1969 for $250,000 and 7.5 percent of all future movie receipts. Pellicano convicted on 76 counts in wiretap case

A federal jury on Thursday found private investigator Anthony Pellicano guilty of 76 counts of racketeering, conspiracy and wiretapping following a high-profile trial that came close to implicating several prominent lawyers in Los Angeles. Federal prosecutors charged Pellicano and four associates with engaging in a criminal conspiracy to wiretap people involved in litigation. More than a dozen lawyers were named in the government's potential witness list, including entertainment litigator Bert Fields, a partner at Greenberg, Glusker, Fields, Claman & Machtinger, and divorce attorney Dennis Wasser, a partner at Wasser, Cooperman & Carter.
