First-Year Associate Hiring Down Slightly at Big Texas Firms

About 400 lawyers have just started their careers at Texas' largest firms. The law firms are working to attract and retain new associates, including a decision by some not to raise salaries to $160,000, which some associates believe correlates with less work pressure. What to Do When the Boss Is Accused of Wrongdoing

Defending against an employment suit is never a comfortable experience for in-house attorneys. And that discomfort is multiplied when it's the boss who's been accused of wrongdoing. Add to that the fact that the average career life expectancy of an associate at a big firm is three years -- before a law firm even starts to make money off the attorney.

Private equity firm Apollo Management has raised its offer for global logistics company EGL and in an unusual twist, filed a suit Tuesday against the target and its directors, claiming the bidding process was rigged.
