Alston & Bird Ups Rookie Pay by $15K

A salary war is heating up in the Atlanta area. Alston & Bird raised salaries Tuesday for 2006 first-year associates to $115,000 -- the firm's first raise in associate compensation since 2000. Alston's pay raise has created a stir, according to a local recruiter, who said, "Our phones are ringing off the hook from associates asking if it's true and if other firms are going to match." The recruiter added that at least one firm is saying it will top Alston's rate.
