AT&T In-House Lawyer Faces Suspension After Domestic Assault
After being convicted of assaulting his wife in an attack that dislocated her shoulder, attorney Peter H. Jacoby received a slap on the wrist from the Supreme Court of New Jersey, which ordered only a public censure. It might not go so easy for Jacoby in Washington, D.C., where he is also licensed and where he works as an in-house lawyer for AT&T specializing in federal communications. The D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility has recommended that Jacoby be suspended from practicing law for 60 days.Remarks on Detainees Cement Bond Between Firms and Corporate Clients
When Pentagon official Charles "Cully" Stimson rattled off a list of firms representing Guantanamo Bay detainees in a now-infamous radio interview, he predicted that businesses would shun their outside counsel. But instead of getting dumped, those firms are largely enjoying support from Fortune 500 clients. General Electric GC Brackett Denniston, for one, says GE will not discriminate based on a firm's pro bono choices -- good news for the more than 120 corporate firms handling detainee cases.A San Francisco federal judge ruled this week that Jon King must arbitrate the explosive claims against Michael Hausfeld and Hausfeld LLP that he first raised in a wrongful termination suit in January. But King said the ruling won't keep him quiet.

The survey also found that while senior partners at large law firms charge high rates, in some cases boutiques can command just as much.Stanley GC Helps Launch Government Contractor IPO
One of the primary reasons government contractor Stanley Inc. hired GC Scott Chaplin was so he could help the company in anticipation of its IPO. Chaplin helped the company go public -- a huge and exciting change for Stanley, which provides information technology services and solutions to U.S. defense and federal civilian government agencies. Chaplin says learning the technology part of the business was his biggest challenge in going in-house.Calendar Draws Supreme Kibitzers
Some of the titans of the U.S. Supreme Court bar have privately asked Chief Justice William Rehnquist to consider overhauling the court's calendar to take into account its drastically reduced docket. The reason: the court's new lean, mean docket is shaving days and weeks off the time lawyers have to brief their cases and prepare for oral arguments. But the extraordinary and unpublicized effort by more than a dozen veteran Supreme Court advocates has been politely rejected by Rehnquist.Trending Stories
