N.Y. immigration law firm faces audit

The U.S. Department of Labor has announced it is auditing all labor certifications filed by New York's Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, a major immigration law firm, saying its lawyers may have improperly advised clients to contact their attorney before hiring U.S. workers in some cases. Labor certification applications are filed by employers who sponsor foreign nationals for permanent residence in the United States, and rules prohibit an employer's immigration attorney from considering the qualifications of U.S. workers who apply for those jobs, unless the attorney is normally involved in the hiring process.
