Everyone knows that fuel prices tend to go up in the summer. But are consumers in warmer states also getting less gas than they're (over)paying for? That's what a class of gas purchasers alleged in five-year-old consolidated litigation over "hot fuel" that settled on Friday.

For the third time in recent years, a Missouri state court jury has hit Premium Standard Farms with a multimillion-dollar verdict, finding the odor of its hog farms is a public nuisance. Premium Standard, meanwhile, says it doesn't smell anything--and is threatening economic consequences for neighborhoods where it's not welcome.

The famously liberal recording artist sued John McCain and the Republican National Committee last summer for using his song without permission. (Why McCain's sputtering campaign chose to misappropriate a song called "Running on Empty" is beyond us.) On Tuesday, Browne settled. Terms weren't disclosed but McCain and the Republicans offered an abject apology.

The plaintiffs claim they were forced to work off the clock and were denied overtime. As many as 200,000 workers from the bank's branches and call centers could be included in the suit.
