Lawyers expect a recent bankruptcy decision by the federal appellate court to boost consumer bankruptcy filings because it eases some restrictions on income reporting under the 2005 bankruptcy reform act. The court ruled that debtors can deduct scheduled installment payments, such as mortgage and car loan payments, from their income on a form that determines their eligibility for a consumer, or Chapter 7, bankruptcy filing.
