Porzio Bromberg Launches Lobbying Subsidiary

With an eye on new rules that make life tough for lawyers who lobby, Porzio, Bromberg & Newman is outsourcing its governmental affairs practice -- to itself. The 80-lawyer New Jersey firm has formed its own lobbying subsidiary, Porzio Governmental Affairs LLC, to be led by a veteran of the practice, Dennis Marco of Duane Morris' lobbying subsidiary. With lobbying revenues among the state's top law firms rising to almost $8.5 million last year, other firms are looking to follow suit.

Even in Slowing N.J. Economy, Gross and Profits Keep Pace

For New Jersey's biggest firms, posting handsome increases in 2002 was almost de rigueur. Riding the rebound from the recession, they reported record jumps in revenues and near record hikes in profits compared with those in 2001. Last year, with the recovery beginning to slow, the state's 20 top-grossing firms nevertheless collectively pushed their gross up by 7.36 percent and profits per partner by more than 6 percent. Revenues per lawyer rose by 3.9 percent.
