Religious Divorce Battle Goes Public, Complete With Picket Signs

In an unusual twist on a growing religious issue, a Florida psychiatrist who refused to grant his ex-wife a Jewish religious divorce is suing to stop synagogue members from demonstrating in front of his office demanding that he give her a divorce document called a "get." Without the get, the ex-wife cannot date or remarry, according to the law of Israel, where the woman has relocated. The opposing attorney argues that an injunction against the picketing would limit the synagogue's First Amendment rights.
