NFL Draft Rule Is Found to Violate Antitrust Laws

An NFL rule that barred Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett from entering the NFL draft after only one year of college violates antitrust laws, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled Thursday. Southern District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin said the rule was not part of the league's collective bargaining agreement with its players and violated the Sherman Antitrust Act by actively excluding certain athletes from the marketplace of NFL jobs.
