Akin Gump triggered a worldwide criminal probe back in 2008 when it accused Pittsburgh-based Alcoa of racketeering and fraud on behalf of Aluminium Bahrain. On Tuesday, the firm beat prosecutors to the punch yet again, wresting a long-awaited settlement from Alcoa.
In 2007 iBasis did a deal with Royal KPN that made the Dutch telecom its majority shareholder. Then, according to a complaint filed Monday in Delaware Chancery Court, KPN proceeded to run iBasis's stock price into the ground so it could cheaply acquire the shares it didn't already own. We can't wait to see what Royal KPN has to say about that assertion, which has turned the tender offer into a juicy litigation.
