Capping close to seven years of litigation over a soured pay-for-delay deal with generic drug maker Apotex, Debevoise & Plimpton won a nine-day jury trial in Florida state court on Wednesday on behalf of client Bristol-Myers Squibb.

An appellate court ruled on Thursday that the Federal Aviation Act preempts the state regulation of all airlines. The decision came in a long-running litigation in which major carriers have been accused of conspiring to keep cargo shipping rates artificially high.

Chancellor William Chandler III is known for decisions that gave broad deference to corporate boards, including the 2006 Disney decision and this year's Airgas ruling. Vice Chancellor Leo Strine appears to be the leading candidate to succeed him. Chandler hasn't yet identified the firm he'll join.
