When physician Bruce David Burstein asked his supervisor to cover some shifts so he could take time off during Christmas season, his supervisor allegedly responded by asking Burstein his religion and shouting at him: "You are a Jew!" Burstein later sued the supervisor and Emtel, the hospital's emergency medicine provider, after his contract with Emtel wasn't renewed. He was awarded $675,000 in damages by a federal jury, but he probably won't be able to collect much of it. Emtel has filed for bankruptcy.
