HMO Postmortem

In 1999 a star-studded team of plaintiffs lawyers vowed to bring the managed health care industry to its knees. The retreat clears the way for Chevron Corp. to buy Unocal for $17 billion, a deal its shareholders are scheduled to vote on Aug. 10.

Almost Famous

Gretchen Rubin's "Power Money Fame & SEX: A User's Guide" seems like a strange project for a former Supreme Court law clerk and Yale Law Review editor to have written. But from these experiences, as well as a stint at a firm and a government agency, Rubin's insight could prove valuable. But don't take it too seriously; after all, she says, "I wrote my book tongue-in-cheek. Don't people get that?"
