Facing EEOC Suit, Kelley Drye Drops Retirement Policy

Bowing to pressure from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Kelley Drye & Warren has dropped its mandatory retirement policy, the firm said Thursday. Chairman John M. Callagy said the firm amended its partnership agreement last month to allow equity partners to continue on past age 70. Senior partners will now be judged solely on performance, like other partners, he said. News of the firm's decision came just days after it responded to an age discrimination suit filed by the EEOC in January.
