Former Maryland governor joins Womble Carlyle

ANNAPOLIS, Md. AP - Former Gov. Robert Ehrlich will join a North Carolina law firm opening a Maryland office which will include a public affairs consulting group.Ehrlich will be joined in the new Maryland office of Womble Carlyle by other senior staff members from his administration, said Greg Massoni, who worked as a spokesman for Ehrlich while he was governor.

Cigarette Makers Score 2 Victories in Florida

Tobacco companies picked up two victories in the same week in Florida in cases brought by smokers in Duval and Manatee counties. The first trial, on behalf of Evelin E. Warrick, concluded when a Jacksonville jury absolved R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris USA companies of liability. Two days later, a Bradenton jury also voted for the defense in the case brought by Jimmie P. Willis against the same cigarette makers. Both cases were on their second trials after the first set ended in mistrials.
