At a secret meeting last week, before the new proposals even came out, pharma execs and their lawyers tried to persuade agency officials that Dodd-Frank whistleblower provisions are going to wreak havoc. They should know--even before Dodd-Frank, Big Pharma has shelled out billions in whistleblower-initiated claims.

In a patent fight over a cancer drug, Apotex and its lawyers at Duane Morris didn't leave well enough alone after they won a ruling in district court. When they filed a cross-appeal, the Federal Circuit accused them of trying to "game the system" and threatened the client with sanctions.

With armies of lawyers on both sides, this one's a biggie. Monsanto is out to an early lead with a partial summary judgment on its contract claims. But with Dupont's antitrust and patent fraud allegations still to be heard, the case has a long way to go.

Claims by Samsung that Panasonic conspired to fix memory card prices for cell phones and digital cameras through a patent licensing vehicle were knocked out by Dewey & LeBoeuf and Davis Polk in a motion to dismiss. But the case may not be over yet.
