Ninth Circuit Ruling Can't Stop Deal

Contra Costa County might be wishing it had waited just a minute before reaching a settlement in a juvenile strip search case. The Ninth Circuit's ruling on a similar issue might've been a game-changer. Alas, it's too late. And: A group of Alameda County lawyers gives its stamp of approval to judicial-hopeful Louis Goodman. Also Blogged: An Orange County judge hands a Meyers Nave land use lawyer a victory while rambling musingly. Plus: Covington unfreezes associate salaries in California.

Third-party litigation funding may be the new, new thing, but there are some unforeseen kinks. Associates Survey 2008

Smaller firms often outscore larger ones on our annual survey of midlevel job satisfaction. It may be because a more intimate atmosphere breeds happiness. Maybe it's because associates have more responsibility. Perhaps it's because they have a better chance of making partner. In these charts, firms are grouped roughly according to size. In the first category are firms whose annual gross revenues are too low to qualify for the Am Law 200. These are the smallest firms that took part in our survey. In the second category are Am Law Second Hundred firms?numbers 101-200 on the most recent Am Law 200 survey (July.) In the final category are firms that appear on our most recent Am Law 100 (May) or Global 100 (October 2007) survey. For a full methodology, click here.

Ousted Leader Tower Snow Breaks Silence About Brobeck

Tower Snow Jr., former chairman of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, is finally telling his side of the firm's collapse -- in a court document responding to a $2.7 million suit against him by Brobeck's bankruptcy trustee. The filing, written by Snow's attorney, contends Snow generated millions in revenue and created a more egalitarian culture. It also says Brobeck was financially healthy at the time of Snow's expulsion and that even Citibank, the firm's lead lender, lauded Brobeck for its "fiscal discipline."
