A promise to set aside $20 million for cardholders who were overbilled will not impede a swell of litigation against Providian Financial, a credit card company with a trail of disgruntled customers. The company announced the refund last week, citing a computer error as the culprit behind overcharging about 700,000 customers. Plaintiffs' attorneys say the gesture is too little too late, and they plan to press ahead with a spate of lawsuits against Providian.A coalition of technology companies led by Android developer Google Inc. publicly stepped up to back Samsung Electronics at the Federal Circuit.
An en banc ruling from 12 judges on the Federal Circuit gives Tivo more ammunition in its seven-year patent battle with EchoStar. But EchoStar probably isn't done fighting. Some Perspectives on New Small Firm Costs
A recent Recorder roundtable brought together a group of entrepreneurial attorneys to share tips on how to build a small firm. Apparently, you still need money to launch a firm, but you don't have to spend a fortune. Some took a no-frills approach, like renting an initial space with views of brick walls, while others spent more to present an already-successful air. On a positive note, Dewey Watson, of Tierney, Watson & Healy, said it costs a lot less to run a law firm than it did 20 years ago.Trending Stories
