Woman Charged With Killing Lawyer-Husband to Undergo Psychiatric Exam

The wife of a Long Island, N.Y., lawyer charged with fatally stabbing her husband will undergo a psychiatric evaluation, a Suffolk County judge has ruled. Kathleen Prisco, who has pleaded not guilty, is facing second-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing her husband, Ralph Prisco, during a domestic dispute at the couple's home. Mr. Prisco was a founding member of Long Island Employee Benefits Group, a pension plan administration firm.

Bankruptcy reform cuts higher earners a break

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the strict language of the 2005 bankruptcy reform law allows higher-income debtors to limit the amount of money and time for repayment of debts, though lower-income debtors do not share the same benefit. The decision provides a potential windfall for what the law defines as "above-median income debtors" because repayment plans can be created to pay creditors smaller amounts over shorter periods of time.

The Supreme Court came into rare, direct contact with the legislative branch Thursday for a budget hearing before a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. Justices Anthony Kennedy and Clarence Thomas testified on behalf of the Court's $66.5 million budget. The discussion included topics such as minority law clerk recruiting, cameras in the courtroom, the splitting of the 9th Circuit and the Court's $122 million renovation, which is behind schedule because the windows were measured incorrectly.
